SAMIA

Samia’s ballads recall the low-lit charm of Tobias Jesso Jr or the hushed immediacy of Phoebe Bridgers. Her rock songs rev and howl with the intensity of Mitski or Hop Along. But whether the volume is up or down, 21-year-old New York native Samia draws from the same well of sharp-witted lyricism as forebears old and new — from Liz Phair to Patti Smith to Josh Tillman.

VISUAL ARTISTS CURATED BY THE CAPTAIN’S DAUGHTERS

Andy Li - Boston, MA  Andy Li's embroidered pennants and accessories celebrate the power of now! Li is a believer in the suggestive nature of positivity. Often you will see him encouraging those around him to keep failing in order to keep getting better. Always trying to adapt and evolve, his work and his personal attitude are the visual exploration of the saying, "You can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs."

Chelsea Teta - Boston, MA  Chelsea is a collage and mixed media artist based in Boston. She thoughtfully captures both the figurative and the obscure through her mixed media abstract collages.

Naya Bricher - Provincetown, MA  Raised in South Kent, CT, Naya Bricher is an artist based year-round in Provincetown, MA. She is an alumna of Miss Porter’s School and Smith College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with highest honors in studio art. In 2013, she was a resident at the Vermont Studio Center. In 2014, she joined the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown as staff-in-residence.

Naya's work honors the effervescence of living an object-filled life within a content-rich world. She revels in whimsicality and is intrigued by nonessential indulgences, such as desserts, pool toys and novelty pets. Her attraction to intense color, combined imagery and cumulative narrative shapes her paintings.

Donny Morin - Boston, MA  Donny Morin is a Boston based artist and printmaker whose work explores the emotional significance of both items and locations; Apathetic, morose, and comedic. Drawing from nostalgia, bad habits, and popular culture he strives to understand why certain places stick with us and why objects fade away into obscurity.

Sallie Kane - Provincetown, MA  Sallie Kane is an abstract painter based in Provincetown. She is incredibly prolific, painting daily (and almost obsessively) every day. Though her work is abstract, you can see she is inspired by the diverse Provincetown landscape, the clear light of the Outer Cape and serene moments inside her studio that she captures and portrays in vivid washes of color.

Paul Rizzo - Provincetown, MA  Paul Rizzo is a painter and sketchbook filler who lives and works in Provincetown Massachusetts.  He works with and from 70s gay porn, portraiture, abstraction, houses and text.  His work is also about a nostalgia both for a time he lives in and a time he has not technically lived through.  He is obsessed with the past specifically old Hollywood and the 1970s.  A process painter, he loves getting lost in documenting and/or the making of art.

Morgan Dyer - Beverly, MA  Morgan's work is inspired by the landscape and it’s shifting qualities. Her abstract paintings and studies are seen through the lens of memory; an escape or initiation towards it. These shifting shapes exist in an atmosphere that can express clarity, or complete fog. Memories that are transformed into paint become an attempt to understand a connection with the past and moments she wishes to remember.

Kevin Lucey - Beverly, MA  Kevin Lucey is a Beverly, MA based painter who holds a BFA from Montserrat College of Art. Regarding his work, Kevin says, "I camouflage text and other recognizable information with hundreds, sometimes thousands of oscillating dots and dashes. Layers of repetitive mark making transform into skins of color that reveal irregularities and shifts in patterns. Horizontal lines of dots create windows through to previous layers. Sections of buried collage material are made visible through this process. This allows aspects of the collage material to function as formal elements in my work, and opens up a wide variety of interpretations."

Brent Refsland - Boston, MA  Brent received a BFA from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University in 2005. He opened The Hallway Gallery in Jamaica Plain in 2009, exhibiting dozens of emerging artists from around New England until 2015. In addition to creating his own work of collages on paper, Brent continues to highlight contemporary artists and designers from around the world at his gallery, Room 68, in Provincetown, MA.

Colin McGuire - Provincetown, MA  Colin McGuire is a Provincetown local and long-time exhibiting artist of the Outer Cape. He received his BFA at Montserrat College of Art and his MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design. McGuire has taught plein-air painting workshops on Cape Cod and in Vieques, Puerto Rico.
